ABOUT ABOUT

Poor Richard’s Opera will present 6 fully staged performances of Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors

FREE TO THE PUBLIC - "pay what you wish" in advance or at the door

Amahl and the Night Visitors tells the story of a young, crippled boy, Amahl, and his encounter with three kings on their journey to witness the birth of the Jesus Christ. The story, inspired by Hieronymus Bosch’s painting, The Adoration of the Magi, portrays Amahl’s innocence and his mother’s struggles to reconcile their poverty-stricken life with the lavish gifts the kings carry when they stop to rest with Amahl and his mother. After a group of shepherds celebrate the kings’ arrival, Amahl’s mother is tempted to steal from the kings and her transgressions are overwhelmed by a miracle the kings themselves cannot believe.
